This electronic database outlines the substantive and procedural laws governing gender-based violence. It is designed to increase access to reliable information on the legal frameworks for addressing gender based violence.
About The Database
This initiative emerged as a recommendation from a meeting hosted by UN WOMEN with regional Commissioners of Police and Gender Bureaus under the project “Strengthening State Accountability and Community Action for Ending Gender-Based Violence in the Caribbean.” This project focuses on strategies of increasing state actor competencies, strengthening accountability and the promotion of social and cultural change through youth-led, gender responsive social communications.
An important feature of the electronic database will be a discussion on how the law operates. By providing country-specific up-to-date accounts of relevant legislation, cases and states’ commitments made at the international and regional levels, it is envisioned visitors to the electronic database will have a better understanding of the law and how it operates to protect them.
This project is an outcome of collaboration between the UN WOMEN (formerly UNIFEM) Caribbean office and the Faculty of Law, University of the West Indies.
