CEDAW Made Easy: Question & Answer Booklet

This question-and-answer booklet is designed to provide women's human rights advocates, government officials, students, teachers, practitioners, and the general public with a snapshot view of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

It aims to raise awareness of the rights to which women are entitled under CEDAW. It can be used to bring about concrete improvements in the lives of Caribbean women. Author/Editor(s): Tina Johnson UNIFEM has developed a series of initiatives around the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), which has focused on increasing the effectiveness of reporting, monitoring and implementation of the Convention.

Key to this is strengthening the capacity of governments and NGOs to use CEDAW to create stronger legal and policy frameworks for gender equality. Fostering partnerships between NGOs and government is also a critical piece of this work. This booklet is designed to provide readers with a snapshot view of CEDAW and to raise awareness of the rights to which women are entitled under the Convention.

Readers can use the booklet to bring about concrete improvements in the lives of Caribbean women. The booklet is written in a question-and-answer format, which lends itself for use as a discussion aid and for research, as well as for general reading.

A listing of relevant websites and other resources has been provided to assist readers in identifying additional resources on CEDAW and other tools designed to achieve women's equal rights. The full text of the Convention is included at the end of the booklet.
