One key component of UN WOMEN's mandate as articulated in General Assembly resolution 39/125 (1984), is to provide innovative and catalytic programming and financial support to countries to achieve gender equality in line with their national priorities. As such UN WOMEN funds projects and programmes of governments as well as non-governmental organisations. Project Proposals may be submitted by registered non-governmental organisations, community-based organisations or inter-governmental organisations. However, UN WOMEN does not support the following: rental/purchase of buildings, purchase of land/property, or construction/repair of buildings (including shelters), or fixed capital outlays; salaries; personal scholarships/fellowships; general operating expenses, direct services such as hotlines and counselling services; projects with major focus on population, childcare, health, refugees or other fields for which there are other established UN funds.
