  Minister Priya Manickchand signs on
14 Nov 2008
On 13 November 2008, Minister Priya Manickchand signed on to the sayNOtoviolence campaign. This sign on comes at a time when the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security in Guyana is spearheading legislative reform of the sexual offences law in Guyana. Under the proposed Act, the corroboration rule has been abolished as has the defence of marriage to an allegation of rape. The proposed Act also sets out the mandatory requirement for police to record and investigate every reported case of sexual abuse as well as the mandatory reporting of suspected cases of child sexual abuse by health workers.
