Women’s Human Rights Campaign: Phase II

(1999-2001)

Objective: To raise public awareness of gender-based violence and its costs; motivate governments to develop and/or change policies and legislation on the subject; and, strengthen the capacity and understanding of key stakeholders to effectively address the issue.

 

Main elements:

 

• Development of Police Training Manual and Protocol of Cooperation, and merging of the Manual with a similar document produced for CAFRA Suriname/IDB.

 

• Trainer of Trainers workshop to test the regional manual and Protocol.

 

• Production and dissemination of four winning posters from the Schools Poster Competition.

 

• Production and publication of Discussion Guide for the video of the Regional Tribunal on Violence Against Women.

 

• Development and presentation of UNIFEM inaugural media award within the Annual Caribbean Media Awards for Excellence in Health Journalism sponsored by PAHO.

 

• Roundtable on Gender and Human Rights for Magistrates of the Judiciary of Barbados and the OECS.

 

• Special stamp to commemorate the WHRC, from a design commissioned by UNIFEM, released by Suriname, Grenada, St. Vincent, and Cayman Islands.

 

• Phase I of Research into the Root causes of Gender Based Violence in Barbados.
