Beijing +5

(1999-2000)

Objective: To support and strengthen partnerships between government, civil society and UN agencies in preparation for Beijing +5; to support analysis, strategy development and good practices that lead to strong recommendations emerging from activities in particular thematic areas; to ensure widespread access to and participation in Beijing + 5 discussions amongst wide-ranging constituencies.

Activities:

• Supporting participants to the Eighth Session of the Regional

Conference on Women in Latin America & the Caribbean, Lima;

• Briefing for CARICOM Missions to the UN on the Caribbean preparatory process for Beijing+5, New York.

• Supporting participants to the UNGASS.

• Expert Group Meeting, in collaboration with CARICOM, to consider the preliminary findings of research to update the publication, Towards Equity In Development: A Report on the Status of Women in Sixteen Commonwealth Caribbean Countries, prepared by Alicia Mondesire and Leith Dunn.

• UN Regional Theme Group on Gender Meeting on Analysis of Beijing + 5 Process, Review, Outcome.

• Support for the CAFRA Beijing+5 Consultation.
